Sedation Dentistry
For any questions or concerns about our sedation options, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Sunrise Smiles. Our goal is to provide a comfortable, worry-free dental experience for all our patients.

At Sunrise Smiles, we offer a variety of sedation options tailored to meet your comfort level, ranging from the light, uplifting sensation of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to the profound relaxation of general anesthesia. We’re here to answer any questions and help you choose the best option for your needs.
Nitrous Oxide: Also known as ‘laughing gas,’ nitrous oxide is inhaled through the nose, serving as a gentle sedative during your procedure. It instills a sense of well-being, reduces anxiety, and minimizes pain. It’s a safe, time-tested sedative method with minimal, short-lasting side effects.
Oral Anxiolytic: Valium, or Diazepam, is an oral medication utilized to decrease anxiety or induce sedation. It subtly alters time perception, often making procedures seem shorter. It is often used in combination with nitrous oxide to ensure patient relaxation throughout the procedure. When using this technique, we require that you have a driver to transport you to and from your appointment.
IV Sedation: This moderate sedation method allows a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to deliver sedatives directly into your bloodstream for immediate effect and precise control throughout your procedure. Post-procedure, patients often report feeling as if they’ve slept through the entire process. A responsible driver is required for transportation post-IV sedation.
General Anesthesia: In partnership with Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, we provide dental treatment under general anesthesia in a hospital setting. This method is typically utilized for younger patients, those with disabilities, or patients whose health conditions necessitate a hospital environment. A CRNA administers the anesthesia and carefully monitors your vitals throughout the procedure. Afterward, you are monitored until stable, and a responsible driver is required for transportation home.
You might prefer sedation dentistry if you:
- Experience anxiety during dental visits.
- Require extensive dental procedures like implants or root canals.
- Prefer a more relaxed dental experience.
For any questions or concerns about our sedation options, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Sunrise Smiles. Our goal is to provide a comfortable, worry-free dental experience for all our patients.
