When you arrive for your appointment, our receptionists will assist you with any necessary paperwork or insurance information. Once that is complete, a dental hygienist will escort you to the treatment area and prepare you for your cleaning and exam. Here’s what to expect for your routine cleaning and exam:
- Oral Examination: The dentist will begin by conducting a comprehensive examination of your oral health. This examination involves visually inspecting your teeth, gums, and mouth for any signs of decay, gum disease, or other dental issues. X-rays may also be taken to get a more detailed view of your teeth and jaw structure.
- Professional Teeth Cleaning: After the examination, our skilled dental hygienist will perform a professional teeth cleaning. This process involves removing plaque, tartar, and any stains from your teeth using specialized dental instruments. The hygienist will clean each tooth meticulously to ensure a thorough and effective cleaning. They will also polish your teeth to give them a smooth and shiny appearance.
- Gum Health Evaluation: Our team will also assess the health of your gums. They will measure the depth of the spaces between your gums and teeth, known as periodontal pockets, to check for signs of gum disease. If necessary, they will provide recommendations and guidance for improving your gum health.
- Oral Cancer Screening: During your routine cleaning and exam, the dentist will also perform an oral cancer screening. They will examine your oral tissues, including your lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat, looking for any signs or symptoms of oral cancer. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment, and regular screenings are an important part of maintaining your oral health.
- Oral Health Education: Our dental professionals believe in the power of education. They will take the time to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your oral health. They will provide personalized advice and tips on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and the use of additional dental aids if necessary. They may also discuss dietary habits and lifestyle choices that can impact your dental health.
- Treatment Planning: If any dental issues are detected during your examination, the dentist will discuss them with you and develop a customized treatment plan. They will explain the recommended procedures, answer your questions, and provide you with an estimate of the associated costs. Our goal is to work together with you to address any concerns and maintain your oral health.
It is generally recommended to visit the general dentist for a routine cleaning and examination every six months. However, the frequency may vary based on individual dental health needs. Your dentist will advise you on the appropriate interval for your specific situation. Schedule your appointment with us today!
